Global Affairs Unit
Quilliam’s Global Affairs Unit is an international diplomacy effort to send leading British Muslims as ambassadors to Muslim-majority countries. In addition to building better ties with mainstream Muslims and scholars in host countries, we aim to interrupt the flow of violent Islamist thought traffic.
Concentrating on Pakistan and Syria, with a view to working in several other countries, GAU holds events on university campuses and seminaries to explain the complexities of Western Muslim life, and illustrate the freedoms Muslims enjoy in Britain and elsewhere. GAU programmes reject the Al Qaeda worldview and provide theological counter arguments: Britain is not Dar al-Harb (Abode of War) and Muslims are an integral part of the West, not a segment against it.
